$1,135.00 Donation to Open the Gates
Capital Campaign At Willowbank
August 19, 2004, Queenston, Ontario - Christopher Newton,
Honorary Campaign Chair is pleased to announce that The St. Catharines
Roadrunners & Walkers Club, has donated $1,135.00 representing the
proceeds of their annual Red Dress 5km Run, held on August 7th Niagara-on-the-Lake.
The St. Catharines Roadrunners & Walkers Club, a non-profit organization,
promotes physical fitness through walking and running. The club organizes
approx. 10 races annually with net proceeds donated to local charities.
Patrick ONeill, Vice- President of the Club and
organizer of the Red Dress 5 Km Run said: As a resident of Queenston
and a long standing member of the Club, I believe that supporting this
National Historic Site is a worthwhile project. We are proud to continue
to donate and support our local charities.
Funds raised for the $600,000 goal of the Open the Gates
capital campaign are being used to upgrade the facilities at Willowbank
so that this newest addition to Canadas National Historic Sites
can literally open the gates to allow public access to this magnificent
Estate.
Funds are being used to upgrade facilities to ensure compliance
with fire and building codes, provide adequate parking, add additional
washrooms as well as provide a new lecture hall and other basic amenities.
