August 19, 2004, Queenston, Ontario - Christopher Newton, Honorary Campaign Chair is pleased to announce that The St. Catharines Roadrunners & Walkers Club, has donated $1,135.00 representing the proceeds of their annual Red Dress 5km Run, held on August 7th Niagara-on-the-Lake. The St. Catharines Roadrunners & Walkers Club, a non-profit organization, promotes physical fitness through walking and running. The club organizes approx. 10 races annually with net proceeds donated to local charities.

Patrick O’Neill, Vice- President of the Club and organizer of the Red Dress 5 Km Run said: “As a resident of Queenston and a long standing member of the Club, I believe that supporting this National Historic Site is a worthwhile project. We are proud to continue to donate and support our local charities.”

Funds raised for the $600,000 goal of the Open the Gates capital campaign are being used to upgrade the facilities at Willowbank so that this newest addition to Canada’s National Historic Sites can literally open the gates to allow public access to this magnificent Estate.

Funds are being used to upgrade facilities to ensure compliance with fire and building codes, provide adequate parking, add additional washrooms as well as provide a new lecture hall and other basic amenities.
