The Willowbank Jazz Festival donates $3,260
to the Red Cross Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund
Queenston, September 23, 2005 On September 11,
2005, the 4th Annual Willowbank Jazz Festival took place, featuring
headliner Peter Appleyard. The Festival was a tremendous success raising
in excess of $32,000 for the School of Restoration Arts at Willowbank.
Prior to the Festivities, Willowbank had announced that 10% of the proceeds
would be donated to the Red Cross Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund. On
Thursday, September 22, Rick Sorby, Jazz Festival chairman, and Laura
Dodson, president of the School of Restoration Arts were happy to present
a cheque for $3,260 to Denise Stone of the Canadian Red Cross.
With the money raised by the Jazz Festival, Willowbank
is that much closer to accomplishing their fundraising goals. Heritage
preservation is expensive and the precious returns it generates are
not monetary. With the continuing financial support of individuals who
attend the events and sponsors who donate funds, the School of Restoration
Arts can preserve and pass on such important examples of built heritage,
like Willowbank Estate, a National Historic Site of Canada.
